Why compare two routes?

Choosing between route variants — or checking whether a training route really matches a race — comes down to a few numbers: distance, elevation gain, estimated time, and how much of the path is genuinely different. This tool puts both routes side by side and answers those questions in plain language, so you (and the friends you ask to check a route) can decide quickly.

Match a rehearsal route to a race course

Training for a race? Open the compare to the course link on any race page to load the official GPX as Route A, then upload your rehearsal route as Route B. The shared-path percentage and the distance/climb deltas tell you how faithfully your training route rehearses the real course.

How overlap is measured

For each point on Route B we find the nearest point on Route A. If it is within a small tolerance (which scales with route length, 60–180 m) the point counts as shared; otherwise it is new ground. The percentage is a fast, honest signal of how similar two routes are.

How do I compare two GPX routes?

Load Route A and Route B (upload a GPX for each, or open this tool from a race page with the official course pre-loaded). TrailSplits shows distance, elevation gain, estimated time, and how much of the path the two routes share.

What does "shared path" mean?

It is the share of Route B that runs along the same ground as Route A, within a small tolerance that scales with route length. A high percentage means the routes are near-identical; a low percentage means they mostly go different ways.

How is estimated time calculated?

A transparent Naismith-style model: flat distance at about 4.5 km/h plus climbing time at about 400 m of ascent per hour. It is a planning estimate, not a prediction of your race pace.

Can I compare my rehearsal route to a race course?

Yes — open the "compare to the course" link on any race page. The official race GPX loads as Route A; upload your training route as Route B to see how closely it matches the real distance, climb, and terrain.

Is it free and private?
