How the snow forecast works

The tool samples your route at regular intervals and queries snow-depth and precipitation forecasts for each point. It combines current snow coverage with 24-hour and 48-hour predictions to show you where you'll encounter snow on the trail and how conditions will change over the next two days.

This is especially useful for early-season and late-season trail planning in the Alps and other mountain ranges, where snow conditions can vary dramatically between valley floors and summit ridges on the same route.

When to use it

Check your route before any high-altitude hike or run from October through June. The forecast helps you decide whether to bring microspikes, adjust your route to avoid snowfields, or postpone until conditions improve. It's also valuable for race preparation — knowing which sections of a course will be snow-covered helps you plan pacing and gear.
