Where the data is complete
How much of what the API reports rests on mapped data, along 1,998 real hiking lines in 73 countries, sampled on 5 October 2026. This is completeness, not accuracy: how accurate the answers are, measured against truth sets, is on the accuracy page.

Where it was measured
Share of the line whose surface OpenStreetMap tags (the rest is inferred from the kind of way). One dot per 10° cell, sized by the lines measured there; a faint dot has too few lines for a grade.
- 70 % or more
- 40 % to 70 %
- under 40 %
By country
Countries with at least 8 lines in the sample, most lines first. Grades are bands of the share shown; untagged difficulty is unknown, never easy.

How it is measured
Measured along waymarked hiking routes: the sample lines follow OpenStreetMap hiking relations, so they show how complete the data is where people hike, not off the network (the waymarked share is about 100 % by selection, so it is not graded). Completeness is what OpenStreetMap and our terrain hold along these lines, as the API reports it; it is not a verdict on accuracy, which is measured against independent truth sets on the accuracy page.
The grade bands
- Network: matched ≥ 95 % good, ≥ 85 % partial
- Surface: mapped surface ≥ 70 % good, ≥ 40 % partial
- Difficulty: SAC-tagged share of paths ≥ 60 % good, ≥ 30 % partial
- Hike-time basis: ≥ 20 published legs calibrated, ≥ 5 few legs (the published walking times the hike model is calibrated on)
