Mountain hut

Finsteraarhornhütte SAC

About this hut: Glacier-surrounded mountaineering hut; SAC states all approaches cross glaciers, no mobile reception, and recommends early spring booking.

Notice: The hut is currently unstaffed. The ten-place winter room is open with telephone reservation required. Ski-season staffing is expected from mid-March 2027; confirm exact dates. Source read 2026-10-24.

Path access notices

Notice: The Gemschlicke summer variant has become difficult as snow disappears from its western couloir. The operator strongly favours the main route, especially for groups, because of rockfall. The Fieschergletscher descent changes rapidly with glacier retreat and requires good conditions and local knowledge. Source read 2026-10-24.

Notice: All approaches are long and cross glaciers. The operator requires experience in high alpine terrain and glacier travel, including rope, crampon and ice-axe skills, plus ski touring equipment in winter. Seek a qualified guide if inexperienced. Times depend strongly on conditions. Source read 2026-10-24.
