Two laps of the 21.1 km half-marathon loop from Bryggen. Each lap heads north along the harbour through Skuteviken and Sandviken to Gamle Bergen at 3.2 km, climbs Munkebotn and Amalie Skrams vei onto Fjellveien, the hillside road above the city, and follows it past Mon Plaisir and Skansemyren to the loop's high point of about 124 m near 7.8 km, then descends through Bjørndalen to Haraldsplass and Haukeland hospitals and down to Møllendal and the Grønneviksøren helipad. The route then follows the walkway around Store Lungegårdsvann to AdO Arena, passes Nygårdsparken and Møhlenpris, runs the Damsgårdssundet waterfront to Nøstet, climbs to Nordnesparken and returns along the north side of Nordnes and Torget to Bryggen. Six refreshment stations per lap serve water, energy drink, chocolate and bananas.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Plan the first lap around the 10:45 Bryggen gate

Reach Bryggen at halfway by 10:45 or you are scored as a half-marathon finisher. From a 07:45 start (2026 map) that is three hours for a hilly 21.1 km, so anyone slower than about 8:30 per km must bank time before Fjellveien.

    More detail

Marathon runners who pass Bryggen at halfway after 10:45 are stopped and scored as half-marathon finishers. From a 07:45 start that is three hours for 21.1 km on a hilly lap, so anyone slower than about 8:30 per kilometre has to bank time before the Fjellveien climb, not after it.

  2. Treat 5 h 30 as the binding limit until the organizer reconciles its pages

The terms accepted at registration say 5 h 30 for the marathon while the runner information page says six hours. A finisher between the two figures risks exclusion from the official results even though the roads stay open, so plan against 5 h 30.

  3. Fuel for the second Fjellveien climb before it comes

Only the Bryggen station lies between the lap change and the second Fjellveien climb around km 28 to 29, so fuel before it. Bibs are issued Tuesday to Friday with no race-morning pickup published: arrive by Friday evening.

    More detail

Stations sit at 3.5, 6.5, 10, 14, 19 and 21.5 km of each lap, so the 124 m climb recurs around 28 to 29 km with only the Bryggen station between the lap change and the hill. Bibs are issued Tuesday to Friday at Vikinghallen with no race-morning pickup published, so arrive by Friday evening.

Target finish time, including stops

The organizer has not published the 2027 schedule and currently shows only its 2025 schedule with an 08:00 start; its 2026 course map gave 07:45. Enter your own start when the 2027 programme appears. Europe/Oslo.

Time limit: 5 h 30 in the signed terms, though the runner page says six hours

How this sheet applies the limit

The organizer's signed terms state a 5 h 30 maximum for the marathon, while its runner information page says six hours; both are tied to reopening the streets and neither says whether gun or chip time applies. A published intermediate cutoff also applies: marathon runners who pass Bryggen at halfway after 10:45 are stopped and scored as half-marathon finishers. This sheet uses the stricter 5 h 30 figure from your own start and does not validate the 10:45 gate.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
