  • Turn near Ramersdorf in Beuel at about km 4, and again at km 25
  • Past the Post Tower near km 13 to a turn on Ludwig-Erhard-Allee in the Rheinaue at about km 15

The map shows the 2026 two-lap course drawn on the streets; the organizer says the 2027 route is still to follow.

Read the full course description

Two laps of about 21.1 km, measured by a WA, AIMS and DLV course measurer, from Belderberg to the Altes Rathaus; this is the 2026 layout, as the organizer says the 2027 course is still to follow. Each lap crosses the Rhine on the Kennedybrücke into Beuel, runs a short loop by the bridgehead and heads upstream to a turn near Ramersdorf at about km 4 (km 25 on lap two), then returns on a parallel street and recrosses the bridge, so you run the Kennedybrücke four times. The route loops through the northern city centre to the river at the Fritz-Schröder-Ufer, the relay exchange at about km 9, and follows the left bank past the Post Tower near km 13 and under the A562 bridge to a turn on Ludwig-Erhard-Allee in the Rheinaue at about km 15 (km 36). The return passes the Post Tower again, crosses Gronau and follows the Museumsmeile past the Museum Koenig near km 19, then the university, the Münster and the Münsterplatz to Friedrichstraße, where lap two begins; the finish comes along Sternstraße. The organizer publishes no climb figure; terrain heights stay between about 50 and 70 m. Eleven aid stations serve drinks and bananas, and your own bottles can wait at each.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Enter in October, before the price bands and the field fill

Entry opens in October 2026 and the fee climbs from 79 to 99 euro as places go; the 2026 event sold out on 17 March.

    More detail

Entry for 11 April 2027 opens in October 2026. The marathon fee starts at 79 euro and climbs to 89, 95 and then 99 euro as places go, and the 2026 event sold out on 17 March at 22,222 entrants across all races, with no entry on race day. Cancellation cover costs 10 euro extra and pays only for illness, accident or death, with claims due by 10 April 2027.

  2. Collect your bib on Friday or Saturday, and hand in any own bottles then

Collect on 9 or 10 April at the Münsterplatz tent, the only time own bottles are taken. Race-morning pickup opens at 08:30.

    More detail

The Münsterplatz expo tent hands out bibs on Friday 9 April, 10:00 to 20:00, and Saturday 10 April, 10:00 to 18:00. Race-morning pickup at the Hofgartenwiese opens at 08:30, and the organizer asks you to allow time. Own bottles for the 11 aid stations are taken only at the Friday and Saturday desk. A proxy can collect with authorisation; posting costs from 15 euro, bookable until 11 March 2027.

  3. Plan for an 11:00 start and company on the second lap

The start is 11:00. On the 2026 layout the 10 km field used the Rhine bank from 14:15, so runners slower than about 4 h 25 share it late in the race.

    More detail

The marathon starts at 11:00, later than most spring marathons, so plan breakfast and travel for a midday start and warm weather in the afternoon. On the 2026 layout the 10 km started at 14:15 from the Koblenzer Tor and used the same Rhine bank up to its turn beside the km 35 and km 37 marks, so slower marathoners share that road on lap two. In 2026 all headphones were banned on course.

Target finish time, including stops

The initial value is the first published start, not your assigned wave. Europe/Berlin.

Time limit: 6 h; the organizer does not say whether from the gun or your own start

How this sheet applies the limit

The organizer gives a 6 h limit without saying whether it runs from the 11:00 gun or from your own crossing of the line, and the 11:00 start is marked subject to change. Bags must be collected by 17:30. No intermediate cut-offs are published. Results rank on net time, except the top 20 overall and by gender, which use gun time.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
