What to expect on the course

  • A loop of Woodhouse Moor by Victoria Road and Hyde Park, then Otley Road climbs about 60 m through Headingley to Lawnswood by km 10
  • Through Adel on Church Lane into a rural loop by Eccup Lane and Arthington Road, rising to about 160 m near km 14
  • Down about 105 m towards the Wharfe from km 16, with a 1 km out-and-back on Arthington Lane turning near km 19
  • Almost flat along the A659 from Pool to Otley, turning through the town centre by Kirkgate and Bondgate
  • Leeds Road climbs about 105 m to Bramhope between km 28 and 32; the last 10 km fall about 95 m past Golden Acre Park

The map follows the route on the organizer's road-closure map for 9 May 2027, drawn onto the streets; the organizer notes that the route may still change.

Read the full course description

A single loop on closed roads from AMT Headingley Stadium north into Wharfedale and back, with Otley Road between Headingley and Lawnswood run both ways. The first 6 km circle Woodhouse Moor by Victoria Road and Hyde Park, then Otley Road climbs about 60 m through Headingley to Lawnswood between km 6.5 and 10. Church Lane leads through Adel into a rural loop by Eccup Lane and Arthington Road, reaching about 160 m above sea level near km 14. From km 16 the course drops about 105 m down Creskeld Lane towards the Wharfe, runs a 1 km out-and-back on Arthington Lane turning near km 19, and passes halfway on the approach to Pool. Km 19 to 27 are almost flat along the A659 to Otley, where the course turns through the town centre by Kirkgate and Bondgate. Then comes the defining climb: Leeds Road rises about 105 m from Otley to Bramhope between km 28 and 32. The last 10 km pass Golden Acre Park and run back down Otley Road, falling about 95 m to the stadium with one short rise. The organizer publishes an elevation chart but no climb total. Its route map places water roughly every 3 miles, with isotonic drink, gels or electrolyte tabs at most points, and Arla Protein pacers carry finish-time flags.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Keep something for Leeds Road out of Otley, km 28 to 32

The big climb comes late: Leeds Road rises about 105 m from Otley to Bramhope between km 28 and 32, after a 105 m drop at km 16 to 19. Run the first half on effort; the last 10 km fall about 95 m.

    More detail

The hardest stretch comes late: after a flat valley run from Pool to Otley, Leeds Road climbs about 105 m in 5 km to Bramhope, cresting near km 32. Earlier, Otley Road rises about 60 m by km 10 and the drop towards Pool loses about 105 m between km 16 and 19. Run the first half on effort, not pace; the last 10 km fall about 95 m.

  2. Keep your postal address current until late February

Numbers are posted to UK addresses 7 to 10 days before. Update your address by about 28 February 2027: later changes risk a lost pack, replaced only on race day. Overseas addresses collect on race day.

    More detail

Race numbers are posted to UK addresses 7 to 10 days before race day. The event page allows address changes until six weeks before, but the entrant terms warn that a change less than 10 weeks before a marathon, after about 28 February 2027, may send the pack astray, with a replacement only on race day, possibly for a fee. Overseas addresses collect at the race office on race day.

  3. Travel light to Headingley and arrive before the roads shut

Bring no bag larger than A4 into the stadium. St Michael's Lane closes from 04:00 and parking is for authorised vehicles only, so come by bus, train or bike. Headphones must be bone-conducting.

    More detail

Only bags up to A4 size are allowed into the stadium, and the baggage label is torn from your race number. St Michael's Lane beside the stadium closes from 04:00 and Cardigan Road from 06:00, parking near the route is for authorised vehicles only, and the organizer points runners to buses, trains and cycle racks inside the stadium. The Leeds Half starts after the marathon, and headphones must be bone-conducting.

Target finish time, including stops

The initial value is the first published start, not your assigned wave. Europe/London.

Time limit: 7 hours, basis not stated; once the sweeper vehicle passes, move onto the pavement

How this sheet applies the limit

The organizer's general FAQ gives the marathon a 7 hour limit but does not say whether it counts from the gun or from your own crossing of the start line. A sweeper vehicle follows the field: once it passes you, you may carry on but must move onto the pavement where it is safe, until the finish straight. No intermediate cut-offs are published. This sheet applies 7 hours to the 09:00 start.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
