A single loop, not laps, from the Tuinstadwijk through the polders and villages east of Leiden and back along the Singels, as drawn on the organizer's 2026 map; the Koninginnelaan start returns in 2027. Runners go about 250 m north on the Lammenschansweg, turn, and head south over the N206 at km 1.5 to Zoeterwoude-Dorp at km 4. The Nieuweweg crosses open polder eastwards, the route follows the Rijndijk beside the Oude Rijn at km 10 to 11, turns, and comes back on the Achthovenerweg to Koudekerk aan den Rijn at km 14 to 15. It then runs north to Hoogmade at km 20, Roelofarendsveen at km 24 to 27, Rijpwetering at km 31 and Oud Ade at km 32, and returns on the Leidseweg and the Zijldijk into Leiden near km 37. The last 4 km follow the Herensingel, Maresingel and Rijnsburgersingel, cross the Morspoortbrug and Rembrandtbrug near km 41 and pass the Galgewater and Aalmarkt to the Vismarkt. The course is flat, between about 4 m below and 7 m above sea level; the organizer publishes no climb figure or surface details. Water and sports-drink posts sit at about km 5, 11, 15, 20, 25, 32, 37 and 40 with water-only sponge points between, clocks every 5 km, and the last pacer table runs from 3:00 to 5:00.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Enter at 12:00 on 1 October, or plan on the resale platform

Entry opens on Thursday 1 October 2026 at 12:00 and places went fast in 2026. After a sell-out the only accepted route is the organizer's resale platform, at up to 20 percent above the price.

    More detail

Entry for 9 May 2027 opens on Thursday 1 October 2026 at 12:00, and the organizer warns that places went fast last year: in 2026 the half marathon sold out by 25 January. The 2026 marathon cost 69 euro with entry closing on 1 May. After a sell-out the organizer accepts only its own resale platform, at up to 20 percent above the regular price.

  2. Collect your bib on Saturday or have it posted

Collect on Saturday afternoon or have the bib posted for 5 euro (request by 1 April). Race-morning pickup opens at 07:00, only 90 minutes before the 08:30 start (2026 times).

    More detail

In 2026 the Garenmarkt tent issued bibs on Saturday 13:00 to 18:00 and from 07:00 on race morning, 90 minutes before the 08:30 gun. That same morning you must drop your bag in the Van der Werfpark, hand in own bottles by 07:25 and stand in your pen 15 minutes before the start. Posting costs 5 euro if requested by 1 April.

  3. Plan drinks for the km 25 to 32 stretch

No drink post between km 25 and km 32, only water near km 28. Leave labelled bottles for km 10, 20, 30 and 40 by 07:25 on race morning.

    More detail

The 2026 map shows posts with water and PowerBar sports drink about every 5 km, but none between Floraweg near km 25 and Hertogspark near km 32, only a water-only sponge point near km 28. Marathon runners may leave labelled bottles for the km 10, 20, 30 and 40 points, handed in at the bag drop by 07:25 or at the Saturday helpdesk.

Target finish time, including stops

08:30 is the 2026 marathon start; the organizer has not yet published the 2027 programme. Replace it when the 2027 time is announced. Europe/Amsterdam.

Time limit: 6 hours from your own start-line crossing; results are ranked on gun time

How this sheet applies the limit

The rules give 6 hours for the marathon, counted from your own crossing of the start line, and the marathon page adds that the finish closes exactly 6 hours after your start in net time; later finishers are not ranked. Results themselves are ranked on gun time, with net time shown as an extra. A broom wagon follows the field and a runner behind its schedule is asked to board it; that schedule and any intermediate cut-offs are not published. These are the 2026 rules.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
