Two laps of a certified 21.1 km city loop from Am Sportforum beside the Red Bull Arena. Each lap heads east through Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse and past the Neues Rathaus to Augustusplatz, then south-east along Prager Strasse to the Voelkerschlachtdenkmal, the southernmost point, before turning back through Richard-Lehmann-Strasse and Zwickauer Strasse to a loop round Deutscher Platz and an out-and-back to the Bayerischer Bahnhof. The return runs west along Kurt-Eisner-Strasse and Schleussiger Weg through the southern Auwald, crossing the Pleisse, the Elsterflutbecken and the Weisse Elster, then through Plagwitz on Erich-Zeigner-Allee, over the Karl-Heine-Kanal and back across the Weisse Elster to an almost 800 m finishing straight on Marschnerstrasse. Marathon runners pass a lap-transition water point at km 21.5 on Jahnallee and repeat the loop. The organizer publishes no climb figure; its half-marathon profile image shows a lap between roughly 110 and 145 m with the high ground around the Voelkerschlachtdenkmal.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Bank the first lap before 12:40

Finish lap one by 12:40, 2 h 40 after the gun, or you are taken out with a half-marathon time. A six-hour runner must run the first half at about 7:30 per km or faster.

    More detail

Marathon runners who have not completed lap one by 12:40, which is 2 h 40 gun time after the 10:00 start, are taken out of the race and credited only a half-marathon time. A six-hour finisher must therefore run the first half at roughly 7:30 per kilometre or faster and cannot pace evenly against the 16:00 closure.

  2. Collect your bib on Saturday, or by 09:30 on Sunday

Collect at the Marathon-Campus, Jahnallee 59, on Saturday 10:00 to 19:00 or Sunday by 09:30; bibs are never posted. On Sunday allow for the tram to Sportforum Süd, or send a proxy with a written authorisation.

    More detail

Pickup at the Marathon-Campus on Jahnallee 59 runs Saturday 10:00 to 19:00 and Sunday from 08:00, but must be completed 30 minutes before your start and bibs are never posted. A Sunday arrival has to fit the tram ride to Sportforum Sued around that 09:30 deadline, or send a proxy with a written authorisation.

  3. Know where you will be at 15:00

The sweep vehicle removes anyone not at Schleußiger Weg and Wundtstraße by 15:00, late in lap two. From 12:45 the half-marathon field shares the loop, so expect a crowded last ten kilometres.

    More detail

The sweep vehicle removes marathon and half-marathon runners who have not reached Schleussiger Weg at Wundtstrasse by 15:00, late in the second lap. From 12:45 you share the loop with the half-marathon field that starts behind you, so plan the last ten kilometres for a crowded course.

Target finish time, including stops

The initial value is the first published start, not your assigned wave. Europe/Berlin.

Time limit: Finish closes at 16:00 for all, six hours gun time from the 10:00 start; later finishers unranked

How this sheet applies the limit

The finish closes at a fixed 16:00 for all distances, which the organizer states as six hours gun time from the 10:00 start; later finishers are not ranked. Two intermediate gates apply: marathon runners who have not completed the first lap (about 21.2 km) by 12:40 are taken out or credited a half-marathon time, and the sweep vehicle removes anyone who has not reached Schleussiger Weg at Wundtstrasse by 15:00, roughly km 38 to 39. This sheet checks the finish clock only, not those gates.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
