What to expect on the course

  • A short loop east of the start in the first kilometre, then west along the coast past the start line
  • Through Zakaki to a timed turn at about km 10, back to the Molos around km 18
  • Twelve kilometres east on the beachfront road past the ruins of Amathus near km 29 to the turn at km 30
  • Straight back along the same seafront road for the last 12 km
  • Never more than about 22 m above the sea

The line follows the organizer's race-day course map as used in 2026, drawn onto the streets; the 2027 route has not been confirmed separately.

Read the full course description

A flat seafront course, accredited by AIMS, that starts and finishes at the western end of the Molos promenade and is made of two out-and-back legs along the coast. After a short loop east of the start in the first kilometre, the route runs back past the start line and west along the coast to km 5, then through Zakaki, with a school cheering point near km 9, to a timed turning point at about km 10. It returns on a partly different line to the Molos around km 18, then follows the beachfront road east for 12 km, past the ruins of ancient Amathus near km 29, to the second timed turning point at about km 30, and comes straight back the same way to the finish. The organizer calls the course flat and fast; the map line never rises more than about 22 m above the sea, highest near km 33, with roughly 100 m of gentle rises in all. The organizer's race-day map, as used in 2026, puts water at about km 2.7, 5, 7.7, 10, 12.6, 15, 17.3, 20, 22, 25, 27.6, 30, 33, 35.6, 38.6 and 40.6, gels at km 10, 20 and 40.6, and bananas and cola at km 25, 30 and 35.6. A pace team with flags runs the marathon.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Collect your bib by Saturday 3 April: there is no Sunday pickup

The Registration Offices are closed on Sunday, so collect your bib between Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 April; the location is still to be announced.

    More detail

The Registration Offices open Thursday 1 April 11:00 to 19:00 and Friday and Saturday 09:00 to 18:00, and are closed on race day, so a runner who lands on Sunday morning cannot start. The location is still to be announced, and the organizer asks runners to be at the start an hour before the gun, so about 06:00 to 06:15 on the Molos.

  2. Race the clock from the gun, not a 6-hour chip time

The 6 hours run from the gun; at even 6-hour pace you reach the km 30 turn about 4 h 18 in, with 12 km of seafront still to go.

    More detail

The limit runs 6 hours from the marathon gun, so minutes spent reaching the line come off your allowance. At even 6-hour pace you reach the km 30 turn about 4 h 18 after the gun, with 12 km of open seafront still to run back. When the six hours are up the route reopens to traffic and later finishers get no medal or result.

  3. Carry your own gels for the long eastern leg

Gels only at km 10, 20 and 40.6: carry your own for the 20 km out-and-back to Amathus.

    More detail

Only three gel points appear on the organizer's race-day map: the km 10 turn and one station passed at km 20 and again at km 40.6. Between them lies the 20 km out-and-back to Amathus, where water comes every 2.5 to 3 km and bananas and cola at km 25, 30 and 35.6, so plan to carry gels from km 20.

Target finish time, including stops

The 2027 entry page gives the marathon 07:15 on its race card but 07:00 in its schedule, and the 2026 race started at 07:00; enter your start and confirm the time in the 2027 race guide. Asia/Nicosia.

Time limit: 6 hours from the gun; later finishers get no medal or result

How this sheet applies the limit

The organizer's FAQ gives 6 hours from the start of the marathon, measured from the gun, and the sheet applies them to the start you enter. When the six hours are up the police hand the route back to traffic, and later finishers get no medal and no result. Timing mats sit at both turning points, about km 10 and km 30, but no intermediate cut-off times are published.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
