London Marathon 2027

What to expect on the course
- Three start lines merge in Woolwich just before mile three, after a net downhill start
- Round the Cutty Sark between miles six and seven
- A short incline, then Tower Bridge at about 20 km; halfway comes on The Highway
- The Isle of Dogs and the twisting streets of Canary Wharf around miles 18 to 19
- The last four miles along Victoria Embankment, past Parliament Square and Buckingham Palace to The Mall
The map follows the 2026 course from the Blue start; the organizer says the 2027 route is the same on both days.

A point-to-point from three start lines on Blackheath and in Greenwich Park that merge in Woolwich just before mile three. It runs west through Charlton and Greenwich, loops round the Cutty Sark between miles six and seven, crosses Deptford and the Rotherhithe peninsula on Evelyn Street, Lower Road and Salter Road, and reaches Tower Bridge by Jamaica Road at about 20 km. North of the river it heads east on The Highway past halfway, threads Narrow Street to Westferry, circles the Isle of Dogs on Westferry Road and East Ferry Road, twists through Canary Wharf around miles 18 to 19, returns west along Poplar High Street and Commercial Road and rejoins The Highway on the opposite carriageway at mile 22. The last four miles follow Byward Street, Thames Street and Victoria Embankment to Westminster Bridge, then Parliament Square, Birdcage Walk and the final corner at Buckingham Palace to the finish on The Mall. The organizer calls it fast and flat with 246 feet of gain, net downhill in the first three miles, a short incline before Tower Bridge and GPS trouble among the Canary Wharf towers.

Three decisions to make before race day
Your drawn day fixes your finish budget
You cannot choose your day. On Saturday The Mall closes at 17:30, 7 h 45 to complete; on Sunday the Green Park finish stays open to 23:59. Above about 7 h 30, the day you draw changes your plan.
More detail
You cannot choose your day. The Saturday finish on The Mall closes at 17:30, which the organizer calls 7 h 45 to complete, while on Sunday the secondary finish in Green Park stays open to 23:59 with only occasional manual scans past eight-hour pace. Anyone expecting more than about 7 h 30 must plan a Saturday allocation very differently from a Sunday one.
Plan the ExCeL trip as its own half day
Bibs come only from the Running Show at ExCeL London, from the Tuesday before, with photo identification; nothing is posted or issued on race day. ExCeL is well away from the Blackheath start, so give the trip its own half day.
More detail
Bibs are collected only at the Running Show at ExCeL London from the Tuesday before the event, with photo identification; nothing is posted and nothing is issued on marathon day. ExCeL is in east London, well away from the Blackheath start, and whether Saturday collection serves Saturday runners is not yet stated.
Do not pace miles 15 to 20 off your watch
Tall buildings in Canary Wharf and the Westferry underpass upset GPS, so the organizer asks runners to use the mile markers. Set your splits for miles 15 to 20 by marker and expect wind tunnels and repeated turns.
More detail
The organizer warns that the tall buildings and narrow streets in Canary Wharf and the Westferry underpass cause GPS errors and asks runners to use the mile markers for distance. Pre-decide your splits by marker for that section and expect wind tunnels and repeated turns.
