Read the full course description

One evening loop from Luxexpo in Kirchberg that starts in daylight and finishes in the dark. It descends Avenue Kennedy and crosses the Red Bridge into Limpertsberg for a looping tour of its streets, drops into the Ville-Haute through the pedestrian Grand-Rue and Place Guillaume II around km 15 to 16, where half-marathon runners turn back, then heads west through Belair and Merl, crosses the Pont Adolphe near km 28 and the Viaduc twice around km 30 and 35 with an out-and-back on Avenue de la Liberte to the station, threads the Petrusse valley paths and Hollerich, climbs back through the city centre to the Red Bridge and finishes with the long climb up Kirchberg to Luxexpo. The organizer publishes no elevation figure; the city calls it one of the most challenging urban marathons in Europe, and the reconstruction spans roughly 260 to 365 m with the sandstone valleys giving repeated climbs.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Decide in advance whether you will drop to the half at about 16 km

You may stop at the half where it turns back across the Red Bridge, about km 16. Set your rule beforehand: the second half holds Belair, Merl, the Pétrusse valley, Hollerich and the climb to Kirchberg.

    More detail

The organizer lets marathon entrants decide during the race whether to run the full distance or stop at the half, and the split comes where the half turns back across the Red Bridge after the Ville-Haute. Name that point and your criterion beforehand, because the second half carries Belair, Merl, the Petrusse valley, Hollerich and the climb back to Kirchberg.

  2. Collect your bib on Friday 7 May

Race-day collection ends at 16:00 while the start is 19:00 and the expo stays open until 18:00, so a Saturday-afternoon arrival leaves a narrow window and needs photo identification at Luxexpo, which is also the start area.

  3. Plan for a dark, cool finish and a course close around 01:00

With a 19:00 start and a six-hour limit, slower runners finish after midnight in the dark. Plan warm clothes for the finish and the trip back: no bag-drop rules are published.

    More detail

The start is 19:00 and the terms count the six hours from the gun, so anyone slower than five hours finishes after midnight, in the dark. Decide what clothing you want at the finish and how you will get back, since the organizer publishes no bag-drop rules and the tram advice in its FAQ is written for relay runners.

Your race-day sheet

Target finish time, including stops

The initial value is the first published start, not your assigned wave. Europe/Luxembourg.

Time limit: Six hours gross from the 19:00 gun, so the finish closes at about 01:00; later finishers are not timed

How this sheet applies the limit

The organizer states that marathon runners must finish within six hours and its terms count that as gross time from the 19:00 gun, so the finish closes at about 01:00; later finishers are not timed. No intermediate cut-offs and no start waves are published. This sheet applies six hours from the gun.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
