What to expect on the course

  • Start loop on the Île de Nantes, then over the Loire's southern arm and back by the Pirmil and Senghor bridges around km 5 to 8
  • Parc de Procé, Place Graslin and Place Royale twice, around km 13 to 20 and again km 29 to 36
  • Between the two passes: the Île de Versailles, the cathedral, the Jardin des Plantes and the Château des Ducs de Bretagne
  • From km 36 north along the Erdre past Petit Port, then the 324 m Traversante pontoon near km 42, where stopping is forbidden

The map follows the 2026 course drawn along the streets; the organizer has not yet published the 2027 route.

Read the full course description

A point-to-point city course from the Nefs of the Machines de l'Ile on the Ile de Nantes to the Parc des Expositions de la Beaujoire, measured by FFA judges and holding the FFA Argent label. The 2027 route is not yet published. On the 2026 course the first 12 km loop the western Ile de Nantes, cross the Loire's southern arm and come back over the Pirmil and Senghor bridges around km 5 to 8, and reach the northern bank around km 10. A western loop is then run twice, around km 13 to 20 and km 29 to 36: along the Loire quays, north through Canclaux to the Parc de Proce, back past Place Graslin and Place Royale and up to the Erdre. Between the passes the course visits the Ile de Versailles, the cathedral, the Jardin des Plantes and the Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne. From km 36 it follows the Erdre north past Petit Port and, near km 42, crosses the river on the Traversante, a 324 m floating pontoon from the Joneliere where stopping is forbidden. The organizer publishes no climb figure. Aid stations with water, sweet drink, fruit and sugar stand about every 5 km and at the finish, and pacers run for each block from 3:00 to 4:15.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Collect your bib at La Beaujoire on Friday or Saturday

Bibs are given out only at La Beaujoire on Friday 23 April 15:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 24 April 10:00 to 19:00. Nothing on race day or by post; a friend can collect with your papers.

    More detail

Bibs are handed out only at the Village in the Parc des Expositions de la Beaujoire, on Friday 23 April 15:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 24 April 10:00 to 19:00, against ID and the pickup card emailed a few days before. Nothing is issued on race day or posted. A friend may collect with your licence or PPS, your pickup card and a copy of your ID.

  2. Reach the Ile de Nantes start early, from the Esplanade des Riveurs

Enter the start only from the Esplanade des Riveurs, arrive by 08:40 and be in your block 30 minutes before the start. Blocks leave in waves 1 to 2 minutes apart, and bags come back at La Beaujoire.

    More detail

Building work around the Machines de l'Ile means the start area is entered only from the Esplanade des Riveurs, and the organizer asks marathoners to arrive by 08:40 and stand in their block 30 minutes before the start. Blocks run from elite to over 4:15 and leave in waves 1 to 2 minutes apart. The bag drop takes only small backpacks or tote bags, returned at La Beaujoire.

  3. Hold 8:10 per km or better from the first kilometre

The cut-offs follow an even 8:10 per km, from km 5 to the 5 h 45 finish, so nothing can be banked. The basis is not stated, so late-wave runners should keep a margin.

    More detail

The cut-offs follow an even 8:10 per km, from 41 min at km 5 to 4 h 05 at km 30 and 5 h 45 at the finish, so nothing can be banked. The rules do not say whether the clock starts at the gun, but in 2026 the Erdre reopened to boats at 15:00, 5 h 45 after the gun: late-wave runners should keep a margin.

Target finish time, including stops

The initial value is the first published start, not your assigned wave. Europe/Paris.

Time limit: 5 h 45 at 8:10 per km or faster; gun or chip basis not stated

How this sheet applies the limit

The 2027 rules allow 5 h 45 and ask for an average of at least 8:10 per km, with cut-offs at 41 min for km 5, 1 h 22 for km 10, 2 h 03 for km 15, 2 h 52 for km 21 and 4 h 05 for km 30. They do not say whether these count from the gun or from your own start, and the start goes in waves. Runners overtaken by the closing bicycle are out of the race; a shuttle takes them to the finish.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
