Read the full course description

A flat road marathon of three laps from the Infineon car park beside the Westbad. The first lap is the 21.1 km half-marathon course, run together with the half and three-quarter fields: east along Puricellistraße and Hochweg into the old town at Bismarckplatz near km 3, past the Domplatz at km 4.5 and out through the Ostentor at km 5.6, then east past the Candis quarter at km 7 to a turning loop at the Vitesco test track around km 11. It returns west on parallel streets to the Ostentor at km 16, runs beside the Danube on Thundorferstraße, crosses the old town past the Rathausplatz and Haidplatz at km 17 and returns along Weinweg to the start area at about km 21. Marathon runners then add two old-town laps of about 10.5 km, the quarter-marathon course, with a short U-turn on Adolf-Schmetzer-Straße by the Ostentor at about km 26 and km 37. The organizer calls the course flat and fast and publishes no climb figure; this map stays between about 333 and 349 m. Roads are asphalt with cobbles in the old town, where the organizer warns the lanes are narrow in places. Aid stations with water, sports drink and cola come about every 4 km, with food at some, and pacers run from 3:00 to 4:30.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Stay ahead of the 14:00 broom runner

The finish closes at 14:00 for everyone, 5 h 30 after the 08:30 gun, and a broom runner sends slower runners off the course; near the limit, line up well forward.

    More detail

The finish closes at 14:00 for every distance, 5 h 30 after the 08:30 mass start, and a broom runner paces that closing time at the back of the field; anyone behind it is told to stop and step onto the pavement. Results use net time, but the closure counts from the gun, so a runner near 5 h 30 should line up well forward. The slowest pacer runs 4:30.

  2. Share the last lap with the quarter-marathon field

The quarter marathon starts at 11:30 on the same old-town lap, so a runner on 4 h pace begins the last lap at about km 31.6 alongside that field.

    More detail

The two closing laps are the quarter-marathon course, and that race starts at 11:30 from the same car park. On 4 h pace you begin the last lap at about km 31.6 just as the quarter field sets off, and slower runners share the old town with it for longer. The lanes are cobbled and narrow in places, so budget for crowding rather than weaving.

  3. Collect your bib on Saturday and arrive by train or bike

Sunday pickup ends at 08:00, half an hour before the gun, as streets close; collect on Saturday 10:00 to 18:00 and come by train or bike.

    More detail

Sunday pickup runs only 06:30 to 08:00, half an hour before the gun, and the course streets and old town close to traffic from 08:00 while Sunday buses run a reduced service and parking is limited. Collect on Saturday 10:00 to 18:00, or send a proxy with a power of attorney, and use Regensburg-Prüfening station, about 1.5 km away, or a bike.

Target finish time, including stops

The initial value is the first published start, not your assigned wave. Europe/Berlin.

Time limit: Finish closes at 14:00, 5 h 30 after the gun; a broom runner paces the closing time

How this sheet applies the limit

The organizer closes the finish for every distance at 14:00, 5 h 30 after the 08:30 mass start. A broom runner at the back of the field runs to a 14:00 finish, and anyone who falls behind that schedule is told to stop at once and move to the pavement, where normal traffic rules apply; a sweep vehicle comes on request. No intermediate cut-off times are published. Results are ranked on net chip time.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
