Read the full course description
Two laps of the Sparkasse half-marathon loop, starting on the Staatsbruecke after lining up in Schwarzstrasse and finishing at Max-Reinhardt-Platz in front of the Grosses Festspielhaus, which the organizer's information page and 2026 map name as the finish although the 2027 marathon page header says Residenzplatz, about 250 m away. Each lap leaves the old town along the Rudolfskai and Josef-Preis-Allee, runs south down the Hellbrunner Allee into the Hellbrunn park roads around km 5, then turns west through Morzg, Leopoldskron and Moos to Maxglan and the Neutor near km 17. Reichenhaller Strasse and the Lehen quarter lead to the Salzach crossing on the Lehener Bruecke around km 18, and the Elisabethkai and Mirabellplatz bring the field back over the Staatsbruecke at about km 20 and through Universitaetsplatz, Alter Markt, Residenzplatz and Mozartplatz to the lap transition near km 21, where the half marathon finishes and the marathon repeats the loop. The organizer claims a maximum height difference of 9 m and the 2026 map gives 422 to 431 m with an AIMS certification mark, so the course is near flat apart from the two bridge ramps. Aid-station details for 2027 are still to follow; in 2026 pacers ran from 3:00 to 5:15 in 15-minute steps.

Three decisions to make before race day
Choose the colour block at entry for the time you will actually run
Pick the colour block at entry for the time you will really run: green under 2:50, orange to 3:30, red to 4:00, blue over 4:00. In 2026 blue left ten minutes after the gun and had 5 h 35 to the 14:15 closure.
More detail
The block is requested at registration, is mandatory and is marked as a coloured circle on the bib: green under 2:50, orange 2:50 to 3:30, red 3:30 to 4:00, blue over 4:00. In 2026 the blue block left ten minutes after the first gun while the finish closed on the fixed 14:15 clock, which left it 5 h 35 rather than 5 h 45. The 2027 block times are not yet published, so check them before entering your start-line time above.
Set a decision time for the end of lap one
Any entrant may stop at the half-marathon finish after lap one. An even 5 h 45 needs halfway by about 11:20, so decide before the Staatsbrücke at km 20; no sweep or cut-off decides it for you.
More detail
Any marathon entrant may run to the half-marathon finish after the first lap and is ranked in the half marathon automatically, with no penalty stated. An even 5 h 45 needs halfway by about 11:20 on the clock, so decide before the Staatsbruecke at km 20 whether the second lap fits; no sweep vehicle or intermediate cutoff is published to make that choice for you.
Be in Salzburg by Saturday evening for your bib
Pickup is Friday 21 May 13:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 22 May 10:00 to 19:00 at the Volksgarten ice arena, away from the start. There is no ordinary race-day pickup, so be in Salzburg by Saturday evening.
More detail
Pickup at the SportMall in the Volksgarten ice arena runs Friday 21 May 13:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 22 May 10:00 to 19:00, and the arena is not at the start. There is no ordinary race-day pickup; in 2026 a Sunday collection 06:30 to 08:00 was allowed only in justified exceptions with prior notice, so do not plan a same-morning arrival around it.
