Running Stones, and how to get one

A Running Stone is an entry into the lottery for the UTMB World Series Finals — OCC, CCC and UTMB at HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc. You earn one by finishing a World Series event, not by entering it. This page tracks 52 upcoming events and 206 Stone-awarding courses from the catalog, so you can see which ones are actually reachable in time.

The rules, in short

  • • You need at least one Stone earned in the past two years to enter the lottery.
  • • Stones are cumulative and do not expire. Each one is an extra entry in the draw.
  • • You also need a valid UTMB Index — a finish in the relevant category within the past 24 months.
  • • Stones come only from finishing a World Series Event or Major, in the 20K, 50K, 100K or 100M category.
  • • A Major awards double. Four are held each year, one per region.

A 20K finish is enough to hold a Stone. The distance only changes how many lottery entries you hold — it is not a qualifying threshold, so the shortest race at a nearby event is a legitimate way in.

Where the calendar goes quiet

The official calendar sorts by date across all six continents, so it looks busy even when your own region has nothing for months. These are the longest stretches ahead with no Stone race at all.

  • South America: 133 days with no Stone race, between 20 Nov 2026 and 2 Apr 2027.
  • North America: 111 days with no Stone race, between 14 Nov 2026 and 5 Mar 2027.
  • Oceania: 89 days with no Stone race, between 13 Feb 2027 and 13 May 2027.
