Read the full course description

A point-to-point city course, AIMS measured, whose 2027 map matches the 2026 line. The field crosses the Danube on the Reichsbruecke around km 1, passes the Riesenrad at the Praterstern and runs down the Prater Hauptallee to about km 5, then north beside the Donaukanal. It reaches the Ring near km 9, passes the Staatsoper at km 10 to 11 and follows the Linke Wienzeile past the Secession to Schoenbrunn at km 15, returning along Mariahilfer Strasse. This is the one sustained climb, about 40 m from km 9 to the high point near km 18; the organizer puts the whole course within 44 m. The half marathon turns off at km 20.3; the marathon passes the Rathaus, drops about 40 m to the Rossauer Laende, turns at the Friedensbruecke near km 24 and returns along the other bank to the Praterstern at km 27. Km 27 to 35 are flat on the Hauptallee, with a spur to the Ernst-Happel-Stadion near km 30 and a turn at the Lusthaus near km 33. The finish comes back over the Donaukanal and along the Ring, rising about 15 m past the Staatsoper to the Burgtheater. Drinks every 5 km, bananas from km 15, plus 15 water points and, in 2026, a gel at km 33.5; pacers cover 3:00 to 4:45.

Three decisions to make before race day

  1. Check your block's margin against the 15:30 close

The finish closes at 15:30 for every block; in 2026 the last block left at 09:33. Set a realistic target time by 12 March 2027.

    More detail

The finish closes at 15:30 whichever block you start in, and no elapsed allowance is published. In 2026 the blocks left between 09:00 and 09:33, so block F had under six hours of clock time. Blocks follow the target time in your account, which you can change until 12 March 2027; a target of 3:35 or faster needs an uploaded result or you are placed further back.

  2. Treat the waiting list as a firm entry

Entry closed on 20 September 2026. A waiting-list place released by 7 March 2027 is charged 155 euro at once, so only join if you would run.

    More detail

Marathon registration closed on 20 September 2026 and there is no race-day entry. The free waiting list is the remaining route: any place released by 7 March 2027 is allocated automatically and the 155 euro fee is charged straight away, without a further question. Join only if you would take a late place, keep training as if you might, and ask by email to be removed if your plans change.

  3. Be in Vienna by Saturday 17 April for your bib

Bibs only at the Marx Halle on Friday or Saturday, never Sunday. Book bag transport by 12 March 2027.

    More detail

Bibs are issued only at the Marx Halle, Karl-Farkas-Gasse 19, never on Sunday. The 2026 hours were 09:00 to 19:00 on Friday and 09:00 to 18:00 on Saturday. Bring the pickup email, sent by the end of March, and photo identification. Bag transport to the finish costs 3 euro and must be booked by 12 March 2027. On race day your bib is a Wiener Linien ticket around your start.

Target finish time, including stops

For 2027 the organizer says only that the marathon starts from 09:00 in several waves. The six block times here, A at 09:00 to F at 09:33 with the start closing at 09:40, are the 2026 schedule; your block letter is printed on your bib. Europe/Vienna.

Time limit: The finish closes at 15:30; later blocks have less time

How this sheet applies the limit

The organizer publishes one limit for 2027: the finish closes at 15:30. That is 6 h 30 after the 09:00 first block, but in 2026 the last block, F, left at 09:33 and the start closed at 09:40, so back-block runners had just under six hours. No elapsed-time limit or intermediate cut-off is published. Official tail runners escort the back of the field, and the 2026 timetable put the last finishers at 15:35.

A timing comparison, not a fitness assessment. Intermediate cutoffs, queues, weather and terrain are not modelled. Stops are spread evenly in the illustration; actual checkpoint times will differ.
