The ring round the Danish island of Møn from Stege, in Museum Sydøstdanmark's nine stages: out to Nyord, over Høje Møn to the cliffs of Møns Klint, along the south coast to Hårbølle, across the dam to Bogø, and back by the west of the island.
Best season: All year. Camønoen is open all year, the museum's FAQ says, but some places to stay open only in season: check their opening times or call ahead. Bus 678, the only direct bus from Stege to Klintholm Havn and Møns Klint, runs from 29 March to 31 October 2026; from 1 November only bus 667 runs, from Stege to Magleby, all year. Book early in high season. Before you go

Nine stages, the museum's own, from about 9 to 38 km. Most end at a place to stay; the official list names none at Klintholm Havn (bus 678 to Stege until 31 October 2026) or at Bogø Mølle, so the plans walk on from Hårbølle Havn to Camping Mønbroen in one day. The Havetapen, 38.1 km by the museum's figure, has no stay we could place on the way, so no plan splits it. Choose a plan, or pick your own start, finish and nights below.

Days end at a stage end with a refuge or a village, or in a village the route passes through. Walking times are measured on each stage's mapped line by our route analysis (terrain heights and our hiking-time model, moving time only): no time is published for these stages.Outside Switzerland our walking times often run short of the times route operators publish; treat them as optimistic. Running times use 7.5 km/h plus one hour per 700 m of climb: a steady reference, not a prediction. Daylight is sunrise to sunset where the day starts; the time left is for breaks, meals and delays.Refuge dates come from the operator's own pages; when they are not published, we say so. For villages we count the places to stay OpenStreetMap lists; we have not checked which are open. A plan is not a booking: reserve every night before you commit to these day lengths.

Source: TerraClimate 1991–2020 monthly averages. Averages for the area at each point’s elevation (4 km grid, corrected for height). Not a forecast or a report of current trail conditions. Snow at the high point is estimated with a simple snowpack model from these temperatures and precipitation, not observed; steep islands and high summits can hold more snow than it shows. Daylight is for the 15th of each month. Hut, transport and park seasons are separate: check them for your dates.
Before you go
Prepare for Camønoen
Arrange your stays, food and travel first, then check conditions again near departure.
Book ahead in summer, check openings out of season
Along the ring you sleep in B&Bs, small hotels, campsites and shelters; book each with the host, online, by phone or by email. Book early in high season. Municipal shelters are first come, first served; Naturstyrelsen's shelters must be booked ahead. Camønoen is open all year, but some places to stay open only in season: check or call ahead. The official list names no place to stay at Klintholm Havn or Bogø Mølle.
Bus 678 stops on 31 October
Bus 678 runs from Stege by Elmelunde Kirke, Borre Kirke and Magleby to Klintholm Havn and the GeoCenter at Møns Klint, from 29 March to 31 October 2026 only. From 1 November, bus 667 runs from Stege to Magleby all year; from Magleby it is 5.5 km on foot to the cliff, the GeoCenter says. Klintholm Havn, where stage 4 ends, then has no bus and no listed place to stay.
Stage 5, from Klintholm Havn to Hårbølle Havn, is the longest: 38.1 km by the museum's figure, 36.9 km on our line, graded hard with long stretches of sand. We found no place to stay on the way that we could place on the map, so our plans keep it as one day. Start early and carry water and food.
Stage 4 runs past Møns Klint on an uneven natural path, graded medium to hard. Five stairs lead down the cliff; Grårygtrappen has 468 steps and Maglevandstrappen 497. Before you go, read Naturstyrelsen's page for stairs or beach closed.
Three of the museum's 12 stages are not drawn here: the Surfetapen, an 8.7 km loop from Bogø Mølle to Farø and back, and the shortcuts by Borre (7 km) and by Elmelunde (5 km). Follow the Camønoen waymarks and the museum's stage list if you take them.
Keep dogs on a lead at all times. In private forests, keep to the paths, from 6 in the morning to sunset. Camp only at shelters and tent places that allow it, never on the beach.
Google Maps journey searches, not confirmed services. A mountain endpoint may need a booked transfer or an additional walk.
To the start in Stege
The ring starts in Stege, Møn's main town; the museum names Møns Museum as the start. We could not confirm the bus to Stege on an operator's page: plan the journey on Rejseplanen, Denmark's journey planner.
Bus 678 links Stege with Elmelunde Kirke (near Pension Elmehøj), Borre Kirke, Magleby, Klintholm Havn and the GeoCenter at Møns Klint, from 29 March to 31 October 2026. Bus 667 runs from Stege to Magleby all year.

Camønoen — frequently asked questions
How long is the Camønoen, and how many days does it take?
Museum Sydøstdanmark gives about 175 km in 12 stages; nine of them form the ring from Stege, 159.2 km added up, in 9 sections on our map. The guide's day planner offers an 8-day plan on the overnight stops, and you can choose your own nights.
When is the best time to walk the Camønoen?
All year. Camønoen is open all year, the museum's FAQ says, but some places to stay open only in season: check their opening times or call ahead.
How do you get to the start of the Camønoen, and back?
The ring starts in Stege, Møn's main town; the museum names Møns Museum as the start. The "Connect your journey" section has the travel details, with 2 more travel notes.
Do you need to book on the Camønoen?
Along the ring you sleep in B&Bs, small hotels, campsites and shelters; book each with the host, online, by phone or by email.
Can I download the GPX of the Camønoen?
Yes: the whole route and every section, free, for a GPS watch or a phone. The guide also saves your plan for offline use in the app.
Is the Camønoen open? Where are closures announced?
Closures we know of are shown on the days and sections they affect, in the day planner and on the stage pages. We watch 4 official notice pages (GeoCenter Møns Klint: bus 678; Museum Sydøstdanmark: Camønoen places to stay; Museum Sydøstdanmark: Camønoen routes and stages; Naturstyrelsen: Møns Klint practical information); the date we last read them is shown with the notices on this page. Check them again before you set off.
Route & sources
Route map & sources
Museum Sydøstdanmark, with Vordingborg Kommune, publishes Camønoen as 12 stages, about 175 km on Møn, Nyord and Bogø. Nine of them form the ring from Møns Museum in Stege and back, 159.2 km added up. It publishes no stage times, only each stage's km and grade, given with ours on every stage. The other three are options our line leaves out: the Surfetapen, an 8.7 km loop from Bogø Mølle over to Farø and back, and two shortcuts, by Borre (7 km) and by Elmelunde (5 km). The line here is the route on OpenStreetMap (relation 2839163, from the planet of 11 October 2026), without the relation's out-and-back to the Farø bridge: 153.5 km round the ring, cut at the nine stage ends. It passes 0.9 km from Pension Elmehøj and 0.8 km from Bogø Mølle, so stages 2 and 6 end where it comes nearest; the walks there and back, roughly 3.5 km, are not in our figures, which explains most of the gap to the museum's total. Our climb is measured on terrain heights.
Official guidance and mapped-source comparison checked 13 October 2026. Map data is a route reference, not confirmation of today's path, weather or accommodation availability.
