Compatsch to Schlernhaus and back

18.41 km · ↑ 1075 m · ↓ 1075 m · mapped track estimates

Walk across the Seiser Alm towards Saltner Schwaige, then climb the bends of the Touristensteig onto the Schlern plateau. The destination is Schlernhaus, a mountain refuge at 2,457 m with a broad Dolomite setting.

Effort & terrain

A substantial mountain day with a long climb and descent. Seiser Alm tourism describes the outward stage as 9.2 km, 827 m of climb and 3 h 30. Add the full descent for a day return; those reference figures cover only the ascent.

Season & stops

Choose snow-free mountain conditions. Schlernhaus published summer opening dates of 6 June–11 October 2026 and 8 June–10 October 2027; confirm your stay directly. Hut opening and path conditions are separate checks.

Getting to the start

Reach Compatsch by the Seiser Alm cable car from Seis/Siusi or an appropriate bus. Check the lift's opening period and last descent before committing to a day return. The walking track climbs to Panorama on foot.

Return & overnight choices

The default map returns along the same path to Compatsch. For an overnight outing, select the outward route and reserve a bed at Schlernhaus first. Carry water, food and warm layers for the plateau; confirm any intermediate refreshment stop.

Route variants, figures & sources

The outward line follows the tourism office's Panorama–Saltner Schwaige–Schlernhaus itinerary. It includes the walk to Panorama. The return repeats those same paths; the Petz summit and onward hut-tour days are separate choices.

Distances and elevation profiles follow each selected track. Climb uses the same GPX calculation as the Planner. These are map-based estimates; check local signs, weather and operating services for your day.
