Best season: October to May, best in late winter and spring. Winter is the walking season here: cool (7–15 °C by day), green and uncrowded, but wet, with landslide and rockfall closures after heavy rain and short days. The ridge reaches 1,316 m at Monte Cerreto and can see snow near Monte Faito. Before you go

How these plans are made

Days end at a stage end with a refuge or a village, or in a village the route passes through. Walking times are our estimate from distance and climb: no time is published for these stages. Running times use 7.5 km/h plus one hour per 700 m of climb: a steady reference, not a prediction. Daylight is sunrise to sunset where the day starts; the time left is for breaks, meals and delays. For villages we count the places to stay OpenStreetMap lists; we have not checked which are open. A plan is not a booking: reserve every night before you commit to these day lengths.

Snow at the high point is estimated with a simple snowpack model from these temperatures and precipitation, not observed; steep islands and high summits can hold more snow than it shows. Daylight is for the 15th of each month. Hut, transport and park seasons are separate: check them for your dates.

Before you go

Prepare for the Lattari ridge

Arrange your stays, food and travel first, then check conditions again near departure.

Choose your nights

Two of the four nights are below the ridge, in Tramonti and Agerola, reached by short paths or a bus. Farm stays and B&Bs are small: check winter opening one by one.

For experienced hikers

CAI grades most of the 300 EE: steep, exposed in places and poorly waymarked in parts, with leaves hiding the path in November. Carry the GPX, and turn back in heavy rain.

CAI Monti Lattari: sentiero 300

Landslides and closures after rain

Paths on the coast close by municipal ordinance after landslides and rockfalls (the Via Minerva to Punta Campanella in winter 2025/26; the Valle delle Ferriere since 2022). Check CAI's pages and the weather warnings before each day.

Meteoalarm: warnings for Italy

Short days, and the hunting season

Winter days have 9–10.5 hours of light, and CAI's own trek walks the last hour or two by headtorch. The hunting season runs from 20 September to 31 January, never on Tuesdays or Fridays: wear a bright layer.

Closures and notices last checked 19 September 2026: CAI Monti Lattari: CAI 300 · CAI Monti Lattari: CAI 327 · Comune di Positano. Check them again before you set out.

Getting there

Connect your journey

Choose a stage or journey above to narrow the travel searches.

Google Maps journey searches, not confirmed services. A mountain endpoint may need a booked transfer or an additional walk.

Naples airport and the train to Sorrento

From Naples, the EAV Circumvesuviana railway runs to Castellammare, Vico Equense and Sorrento; Cava de' Tirreni, near the start, is on the Naples–Salerno railway, with city bus 61 up to Corpo di Cava.

EAV: Circumvesuviana

Coast buses

SITA Sud buses link Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento (stops at Colli di San Pietro), Maiori with Tramonti and the Valico di Chiunzi (line 5010), and Amalfi with Agerola and Castellammare (line 5080). Winter timetables are thinner.

Offline maps

Prepare each stage while you still have a connection; coverage is patchy on the ridge and in the valleys.

Keep your route and maps on your phone for places without a signal. For multi-day trips, prepare them in the installed TrailSplits app.

  1. Open this trail in the app. Install TrailSplits, then open this trail there. On iPhone, downloads in a browser may not be available in the installed app.
  2. Choose your route or stages. Choose Prepare offline above. Wait for the route and maps to finish downloading.
  3. Try it before leaving coverage. Switch offline, close and reopen the app, then use My Hikes to start navigation. Repeat for every part you will need.

Saving a bookmark is not a map download. Storage can be cleared by your device; keep a backup map for remote trips.

About this map

The map follows the eleven OpenStreetMap sections of the CAI 300 (relation 9315161), cut at the four day stages of CAI Castellammare di Stabia's winter treks: Valico di Chiunzi, Crocella above Agerola, Colli di San Pietro and Termini. It measures 70.4 km against the 71.4 km of CAI's two published parts, including the path up to the Santuario dell'Avvocata and back and out to Punta Campanella. A 53 m gap in OpenStreetMap at Torca is joined. CAI grades most of the route EE (for experienced hikers).

Official guidance and mapped-source comparison checked 18 September 2026. Map data is a route reference, not confirmation of today's path, weather or accommodation availability.
