Nordmokorset to Haug

Rondanestien · Stage 5

Walking time measured on the mapped line (TrailSplits time model, moving time; within 22 % on four in five test legs). Outside Switzerland our walking times often run short of the times route operators publish; treat them as optimistic. Climb measured on the mapped line, on terrain heights.

Etappe 3, Nordmokorset to Stange, day 1 of 2: by Eidsvoll church and the Eidsvoll building onto the path shared with the Pilegrimsleden. DNT gives 35.9 km for the etappe and no time for either day, and names no day stop: we cut at Haug pilegrimsrast, a self-service pilgrim hostel open June to September. The times shown are ours. Kammerpikene, a small house at Eidsvoll Verk open all year, is about 8.5 km in.

Best season: June to September. ut.no gives June to September as the season for the whole trail. The DNT huts from Oslo to Målia stay open all year with a DNT key, but the mountain huts close at times: Halgutusveen and Øyungshytta from about 7 April to 18 June 2027 while the wild reindeer calve, and Lyngbua from 21 October 2026 to 18 June 2027. The pilgrim lodgings by Eidsvoll and Lysjøen open only in summer, and the summer road to Målia runs from about 1 June to mid-October. In Rondane, Bjørnhollia and Grimsdalshytta have had no self-service room since Easter 2026: they have beds only while staffed, at Easter and from about late June to mid-September. Before you go

Make it your trip

Book the huts, carry the key

Almost every night is in a DNT hut without staff or meals: bring a DNT key, a sleeping bag and your food. The HHT huts from Gammelsaga to Øyungshytta can be booked on DNT's booking site, and walkers who have not booked may come and pay in the DNT app. The DNT Oslo og Omegn huts near Oslo (Tømtehyttene, Bekkestua, Råbjørnhytta) are let as a whole and must be booked ahead. Lyngbua cannot be booked: first come, first served. No staffed hut with beds and meals lies between Oslo and Målia. In Rondane, Bjørnhollia and Grimsdalshytta are staffed huts with meals, booked on DNT's booking site, and have beds only while staffed. The pilgrim lodgings by Eidsvoll and Lysjøen open only in summer: on 13 October 2026 Haug pilegrimsrast, Kveldsro and Lysjøhimet were closed for the season.

Huts open this autumn

The DNT huts from Tømtehyttene to Sandfløten are open all year (ut.no hut pages, read 13 October 2026). Lyngbua, at the end of etappe 4, closes on 21 October 2026 and opens again on 18 June 2027. Målia's food hut closed on 11 October and reopens on 26 December; the self-service hut beside it stays open. Hjerkinn Fjellstue closed for the year on 4 October. In Rondane the self-service huts Djupslia, Vetåbu, Veslefjellbua, Eldåbu and Øvre Dørålseter's unstaffed part stay open with a DNT key until the spring closure for the reindeer calving. Bjørnhollia and Grimsdalshytta closed on 13 September and have no self-service room since Easter 2026, so there is no bed at either until they are staffed again (Grimsdalshytta from 12 March 2027). DNT takes in Rondane's summer bridges from September: check DNT's bridge status before you cross.

Hut closures for the reindeer calving

In spring some mountain huts close while the wild reindeer calve: Halgutusveen and Øyungshytta from about 7 April to 18 June 2027 (ut.no, read 13 October 2026). Jammerdalsbu closed from 10 April to 18 June in 2026 and is open until 1 May 2027; its 2027 dates are not published yet. HHT announces the closures on its news page each spring.

Short days and one long day

Two of DNT's days are short: Kringlerdalen to Nordmokorset is 8.2 km (3 h) and Lyngbua to Djupslia 10.1 km (3 h). Kringlerdalen has no confirmed beds, and Nordmokorset none: join those days by Råbjørnhytta and Kammerpikene at Eidsvoll Verk. Two days are long, with no hut between: Tingstadkoia to Svartskogkoia, 24.7 km and 8 h, and Øyungshytta to Lyngbua, 27.5 km and 10 h (ut.no etappe 4, read 13 October 2026).

UT.no: etappe 4, Lysjøen to Lyngbua

The pilgrim path by Eidsvoll

From Eidsvoll to Lysjøen, on etappe 3, the trail shares the path of the Pilegrimsleden, and its lodgings are pilgrim hostels that open in summer: Haug pilegrimsrast June to September, Kveldsro 20 May to 30 September, Lysjøhimet May to September. Open all year are Kammerpikene at Eidsvoll Verk, a small house booked through Airbnb, and a free shelter about 5 km after Haug (pilegrimsleden.no listings, read 13 October 2026).

Buses in Innlandet

From Lysjøen to Målia the local buses are Innlandstrafikk's, and many are school buses: check which days they run. In Stange the stops Huse, Nøkleholm, Røhnekorset and Frisholm are closed for several years for roadworks (lines 671 and 687; traffic message read 13 October 2026). Målia is reached by car only on the summer road, from about 1 June to mid-October.

Route & sources

Route map & sources

DNT (Den Norske Turistforening) publishes the Rondanestien on rondanestien.dnt.no as six etapper, with the route detail on ut.no: Oslofjorden to Bekkestua 43.9 km, Bekkestua to Nordmokorset 33.4 km, Nordmokorset to Stange (Lysjøen) 35.9 km, Lysjøen to Lyngbua 178 km, Lyngbua to Jammerdalsbu 46.9 km and Jammerdalsbu to Hjerkinn 108.9 km. They add up to 447 km; the whole-route page says 436.6 km in about 24 days. Each etappe lists recommended day stages, 25 in all, and gives a time for each day except the two days of etappe 3; etappe 4 also gives each day's distance. Our 25 stages end at those day stops, and each day shows DNT's time beside ours. On etappe 3, where DNT names no day stop, we cut at Haug pilegrimsrast, about halfway. The line here is DNT's route on OpenStreetMap, the three relations of its Rondanestien (15792828, 1572953 and 1572954, from the planet of 11 October 2026), from Bjørvika in Oslo to Hjerkinn fjellstue: 437.1 km, the whole trail. Where a hut stands off the line, the stage ends at the nearest point of the line: Tømtehyttene (0.6 km by a side path), Eldåbu (0.6 km), Kringlerdalen and Øyungshytta (0.3 km), Dørålseter (0.15 km), Vetåbu (0.14 km) and Veslefjellbua (65 m). The trail ends at Hjerkinn fjellstue, about 1.8 km from Hjerkinn station. On etappe 4, where DNT gives distances, our days are within 1.6 km of them. Our climb is measured on terrain heights, so short steep steps are smoothed out.

Official guidance and mapped-source comparison checked 13 October 2026. Map data is a route reference, not confirmation of today's path, weather or accommodation availability.
